NegLaB Kick-off event

We are delighted to announce that the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) “Negation in language and beyond – NegLaB”, which received DFG funding in November 2023, is officially kicking off this April 2024. NegLaB aims to develop a theoretical perspective on the way negation manifests itself in natural language, how it is acquired and processed, and why it varies so much across languages. With the funding secured, we are poised to make significant strides in linguistics and psychology, ultimately contributing to gaining a better understanding of the connections between linguistic competence and general cognition.

To celebrate the launch of NegLaB, we invite you to join us for a kick-off event on April 19 2024 at Goethe University Frankfurt (Room IG 311, Campus Westend). This will be an opportunity to learn more about the project, meet the researchers, and understand how you can be part of this exciting journey.

On this special occasion, four of our Mercator Fellows will join us:
Theresa Biberauer (Stellenbosch University)
Richard Breheny (University College London)
Karen De Clercq (CNRS Laboratoire de Linquistique Formelle, Universite Paris Cite)
Ming Xiang (University of Chicago)

When: Friday April 19, 2024. 8:30 am – 17:30.
Where: Goethe University Frankfurt, Campus Westend, Room IG 311.

You can download the full program here.

We are thrilled to embark on this journey and are grateful for the support of DFG, Goethe University and Faculty 10 Modern Philology, and community. Stay tuned for more updates and ways to get involved.
