Prof Dr. Frank Kügler

Frank Kügler is Professor of Linguistics / Phonology at the Department of Linguistics (Goethe University Frankfurt). His work focuses on language prosody, in particular on cross-linguistic prosody from various different perspectives such as the expression and modelling of information structure, prominence and sentence mode, the interaction of tone and intonation, prosodic phrasing and recursive prosodic constituents at the prosody-syntax interface, and recently the interaction of prominence and negation. Frank Kügler’s recent interests include also multimodal speech, in particular the synchronization of gestures and prosody. He has worked on the prosody of a number of typologically diverse languages including Mandarin, Hindi, Akan, and German among others.
